With summer trips on the horizon, the last thing you want is to stress over tangled chains or lost earrings. Whether it’s a holiday or a business trip, here’s how to keep your jewellery safe, organised, and ready to wear!

First things first, always pack your jewellery in your hand luggage. Checked bags can go missing or be handled roughly, and that’s the last thing you want when you’re travelling with valuables. Keeping your valuables with you means you can easily access them during security checks and travel with a peace of mind.
When it comes to packing, a travel-friendly jewellery organiser is your best friend. Choose one with separate, padded compartments to keep necklaces, earrings, rings, and bracelets secure and tangle-free. You can also store your jewellery in small zip-lock bags or anti-tarnish pouches to keep metals from oxidising and pieces from scratching each other.
However, try to bring just a few versatile pieces that you can mix and match. It’s tempting to pack your favourites, but the more you bring, the more you risk losing.

If you’re taking along any high-value or sentimental pieces, it’s worth looking into jewellery insurance, just for that extra peace of mind. Before your trip, go see a jewellery valuer and file with a jewellery insurer. Hopefully, you won’t need it, but if anything does go missing, having that info will make things way easier when it comes to filing a claim.
Once you’re all checked in and unpacked, make sure your jewellery has a safe storage spot while you're out and about. If your room has a safe - perfect, pop everything in there. If not, just store your pieces into a discreet pouch hidden in your suitcase. During your trip, avoid wearing jewellery in water as saltwater, chlorine and even hotel tap water in certain places can dull or damage certain metals or stones. It’s best to take your jewellery off before swimming or showering.
Lastly, before you head off, remember to give your jewellery a quick clean to keep it looking its best throughout your trip. A gentle polish can help bring back its shine, especially for pieces you wear often. A bit of soap and a soft toothbrush generally does the trick. It’s also a good idea to pack your soft polishing cloth in your travel case for an easy clean throughout your trip.
We hope you have a wonderful trip, and if your holiday inspires a new jewellery idea, we’d love to bring it to life. For questions, custom designs, or just to chat about your next piece, feel free to send us an email at info@stapyltonsmith.com & we’ll be in touch!
